MBA Winter Regatta 2015                                            

February, 20th & 21st , 2015                                            

 

  

The MBA Winter regatta 2015 is organized by ‘MBA_Winter_Regatta’ (the “Organizers”) under the auspices of the Puerto Calero Marina and IE Business School Alumni Sailing Club

 

1          RULES

  • The regatta will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRoS 2013-2016).

Note: The RRoS 2013-2016 can be downloaded from the ISAF website.

1.2       No national authority prescriptions will apply.

 

2         ELIGIBILITY

2.1      The regatta is open to boats of the J/80 class.

2.2      A minimum number of 7 entries are required for the MBA Winter Regatta 2015.

2.3      A maximum number of 15 entries are permitted.

2.4      Each entry teams must comprise up to 5 competitors.

2.5       Each team needs to have at least one responsible and competent sailor holding an appropriate skipper certificate of any level and any nationality (the “Skipper”).

2.6       A limit of two boats per school will be in place until 31st December 2015. Thereafter boats will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

 

3          ENTRY

3.1       To enter, eligible teams shall complete the attached forms and send them, together with the required fees to MBAWinterRegatta@gmail.com.

3.2       The deadline for receipt of entry forms and payment to guarantee entry is January 08th, 2015.

3.3       Entries may be possible after January, 08th, 2015 on a ‘best endeavors’ basis and will depend on boat availability.

3.4       The final deadline for receipt of entry form and payment for ‘best endeavors’ entry: January, 31st, 2015.

 

4          REGISTRATION

4.1       Skippers shall complete on-site registration at the Marina race office.

4.2       During registration skippers must complete and leave a Next of Kin form (see Appendix) with the organizers before leaving the Marina.

 

5          DEPOSIT & INSURANCE

5.1       Each skipper is responsible for the damage or loss for his or her boat unless the Jury otherwise assigns responsibility.

5.2       The skipper shall provide a security deposit during registration. This is a refundable payment of €800. The skipper will be liable for damage or loss incurred to the boat and its ancillary equipment up to the maximum cost of €800. If damage occurs to the value lower than the security deposit you will be refunded your deposit less the cost of repair. If the damage incurred exceeds the security deposit value your payment will not be refunded and you will not be required to pay any additional costs.

5.3       Attention is drawn to ISAF rule 14 (Avoiding Contact): “A boat shall avoid contact with another boat if reasonably possible”.

5.4       A skipper may be responsible for damage or loss to another boat or 3rd party if the Jury assigns responsibility.

5.5       Should the organizing committee decide to deduct from the security deposit for any incident occurred, it may require that the deposit be restored to its original amount before the team is permitted to use the boat again.

5.6       The remaining deposit will be refunded after the boat has been returned and provided the boat is in good condition.


6          SCHEDULE

6.1       February 19th: Sunrise: 07:30, Sunset 18:47.

6.2       All dates and times referred will be local Lanzarote.

7          ADVERTISING

  1. 1 Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority.

7.2       Teams may display their own advertising as long as it does not damage the boat, obscure boat markings, or obscure provided advertising.

 

8          CAMERAS AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

8.1       Boats will be required to carry positioning equipment as specified by the organizing authority.

8.2       Boats may be required to carry cameras and sound equipment as specified by the organizing authority.

8.3       Information from equipment provided by organizing authority (8.1, 8.2) shall not be used by a Skipper as evidence in a hearing.

 

9          VENUE

9.1       The shore venue will be Puerto Calero, Lanzarote

9.2       Skipper briefings will be held each morning at the Marina.

9.3       It is intended to hold races in the bay close to the Marina. Race schedule and location may be altered by the organizing committee: details will be included in the Skipper briefing.

 

10        RACES & SCORING

10.1    One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.

10.2    The organizing committee may cancel, abandon or alter race format for all or some races if they decide it is unsafe to continue.

10.3    (a) When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

(b) When five or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her 1 worst score.

10.4    Scoring will be based on finishing position; such that the boat with the lowest overall total score wins the series. Where boats have a tie on total score, boats will be ranked based on the last race.

 

11        BOATS

11.1    The Marina will provide each team with a J/80 boat. Boats will be allocated randomly to each team.

11.2    Competitors shall not modify the boats or cause them to be modified in any way except that:

(a)   A compass may be tied or taped to the hull or spars;

(b)   Wind indicators, including yarn or thread, may be tied or taped anywhere on the boat;

(c)   Boats may be cleaned, but only with water;

(d)   Adhesive tape may be used anywhere above the water line;

(e)   All fittings or equipment designed to be adjusted may be adjusted, provided that class rules are complied with;

(f)   No items may be removed from the boat without agreement from the organizers.

11.3    Each boat will have VHF and lifejackets.

 

12        ACCOMMODATION

12.1     Accommodation is included in the regatta price.

 

13        PRIZES

13.1    Prizes will be awarded for the first three places of the series.

 

14        DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

15.1    The Organizers, any Committee of the Regatta and any other person involved in the organization of MBA Winter Regatta 2015 regatta, neither accepts any liability nor can be otherwise held liable for any physical or material damage, loss or claim, injury or death of an entrant or a third person or any other reason or event occurring prior to, during or after any race or at any other time in relation with the MBA Winter Regatta 2015.

15.2    The safety of any boat and her entire management (excluding insurance which is the obligation of the owner) shall be the sole responsibility of the skipper who must ensure that the boat is manned by experienced crew, sufficient in number and who are physically fit to face any weather conditions including bad weather taking into account the limitations of the boat and its equipment. The skipper must be satisfied as to the soundness of the hull, spars, rigging and all gear.

15.3    Neither the provision of the obligations and responsibility of the paragraph above, nor their invocation or implementation by the Organizers and the Committees, in any way limits the sole and absolute responsibility of the skipper.

15.4     Attention is drawn to ISAF Rule 4 (Decision to Race): “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone”.

 

16        COSTS

16.1     The entry fee is €2.250 (incl. VAT) per boat 5 people and includes

  1. Charter of J/80 for the period of the regatta.
  2. Accommodation at Residencia Noray, Puerto Calero for 5
  3. Breakfast & Lunch on February, 20th and 21st , for 5.
  4. Berthing at Puerto Calero Marina.
  5. Welcome drinks, buffet & party for 5 on Thursday night.
  6. Celebration drinks, buffet & party for 5 on Saturday night.
  7. Transfer to Arrecife airport on Sunday.

16.2     A Christmas special price of €2.150 (incl. VAT) is due for all teams who will make their payment before December, 25th (Christmas day)
